How to print printables at home (without colour surprises)
A practical checklist for crisp colour, clean edges and paper that feels lovely in the hand.
Printing at home is one of the quickest ways to bring a design to life. A little setup makes a big difference to the finished result — especially when colour and paper matter.
Start with the right PDF
Open the file in a PDF reader rather than a browser preview. Choose “Actual size” or “100%” so the design is not quietly scaled to fit the page.
Match paper to the job
- Invitations: 200–300 gsm matte card stock.
- Games and activity sheets: standard 80–100 gsm paper.
- Signs: heavier card stock, or ask a print shop for foam board.
A quick colour check
Print one page on plain paper first. Screens glow; paper does not. If the colours look too warm or too dark, try the “Photo” or “High quality” setting and turn off economy mode.
Finally, let ink dry for a few minutes before cutting. Clean edges are easier when the page is flat and fully dry.
